Savannah, GA (November18, 2011) – United Way of the Coastal Empire announced they exceeded their campaign goal by raising an impressive $8,504,597. Campaign Chair Michael C. Traynor, publisher of the Savannah Morning News, and members of the Campaign Cabinet proudly reported campaign results to a sold out crowd of over 450 people at the Victory Celebration today at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront.

Savannah, GA (October 19, 2011) – With four weeks remaining until the campaign’s conclusion, 2011 Campaign Chair Michael C. Traynor, publisher of the Savannah Morning News, announced that United Way of the Coastal Empire has raised $4,104,597 of its $8,255,555 goal, which represents 50 percent of the total. The results were reported during a festive Campaign Rally held at Monterey Square.

Savannah, GA (October 3, 2011) - Hands On Savannah, a direct service of United Way of the Coastal Empire, recently united and mobilized hundreds of community-minded volunteers to help area nonprofits. Their annual “Week of Service” event was held from Saturday, September 24th through Saturday, October 1st and included 15 projects across United Way’s four-county service area of Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.

Savannah, GA (September 20, 2011) – United Way Hands On Savannah announces its “Week of Service,” launching at Savannah’s beach, Tybee Island, on Saturday, September 24, 2011 and culminating in various locations throughout the community on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Hands On Savannah is an outreach program of the United Way of the Coastal Empire whose purpose is to unite and motivate people into active volunteer service that impacts community needs through a variety of short term, hands on projects and also offer long term volunteering opportunities. Hands On Savannah is also a member of the Hands On Network.

United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Women's Legacy Council raised $15,075 this summer to fund transportation services for disadvantaged women and children. The annual transportation fundraiser, now in its third year, is known as “Give-A-Way”.

Savannah, GA (September 8, 2011) – United Way of the Coastal Empire announced today its goal for the 2011 community campaign at the Kick-Off event held at the Savannah Civic Center with approximately 1,000 people in attendance to help mark the occasion. The organization has set an ambitious target of $8,255,555 up $255,555 from last year.

These dedicated volunteers assist United Way in the strategic investment of The Community Fund by thoroughly evaluating program funding requests from nonprofit human service organizations in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. The Community Fund is a major source of funding for human services in our area. The programs evaluated by Community Investment Volunteers address critical needs within United Way’s priority impact areas of: Education & Youth Development, Health & Wellness, Economic Independence and Basic Human Needs.

Savannah, GA (July 29, 2011) – Chatham County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program; United Way of the Coastal Empire serves as the fiscal agent. Chatham County will receive $113,437.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the local area. The funds will be distributed to qualifying organizations selected by the Local Board.
