UWCE seeks volunteers for allocations process PDF Print E-mail

Savannah, GA (July 13, 2010) – United Way of the Coastal Empire is looking for community members interested in being part of this year’s community investment process. Each year, United Way of the Coastal Empire engages dozens of volunteer citizens from across the community to serve on one of four Community Investments’ Allocations Panels.  These panels evaluate program funding proposals from non-profit social service organizations in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.  The members then make funding recommendations to allocate The Community Fund, which are the un-designated donor contributions raised during United Way’s annual charitable-giving campaign.

UWCE Women's Legacy Council raises over $9,000 to help low-income women find dependable transportation PDF Print E-mail

Savannah, GA (June 23, 2010) – Women’s Legacy Council, the local women’s giving circle launched by United Way of the Coastal Empire, raised over $9,000 in its second annual Give-a-Way project.  Funds raised will be used to provide bus passes for women served through United Way programs and services.

Savannah, GA (June 21, 2010) – Despite a high level of heat, a number of golf teams joined together and showed their support as they took to the greens during the 18th Annual United Way Golf Tournament at the Club at Savannah Harbor.  Each year, the golf tournament is instrumental in jump-starting the United Way fundraising campaign, as it builds awareness of the community based programs that United Way of the Coastal Empire supports throughout its four county coverage.

UWCE offers low-income families a fresh start PDF Print E-mail

Savannah, GA (June 4, 2010) – For low income families facing critical situations due to a loss in income or unfortunate economic circumstances, help is on the way.  Through the Georgia Fresh Start program, United Way of the Coastal Empire provides one-time financial crisis assistance, up to $3,000 per household, for housing and utilities including foreclosure, demand for possession, dispossessory, eviction notice, shut-off or past due notice for utilities or utilities turned-off.  The program will launch on June 7, 2010 and run through September 30, 2010.

UWCE Women's Legacy Council kicks off Give-a-Way project to benefit low-income women PDF Print E-mail

Savannah, GA (May 4, 2010) – Members of United Way Women’s Legacy Council are kicking off their heels and getting down to business. Approximately 45 local women, comprised of philanthropists and community leaders, are gearing up for the second annual Give-a-Way project to raise funds for low-income women in our community.  The fundraising drive officially kicks off on Mother’s Day (May 9, 2010) and culminates on Father’s Day (June 20, 2010).  Give-a-Way donations will be used to provide CAT bus passes for women, who do not have a car or other means to reach the services they need.

Savannah, GA (March 26, 2010) - United Way of the Coastal Empire hosted more than 250 volunteers and supporters during its 72nd Annual Meeting and Award Luncheon today at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, honoring community volunteers for their hard work and dedication and inducting new Board members.  The celebration also highlighted the work the organization has done throughout the past year and recognized the support it received from approximately 31,000 donors and 700 companies during its 2009 community campaign.

Savannah, GA – (February 8, 2010) – Most people know they can dial 9-1-1 for a medical emergency or to report a crime or 4-1-1 to inquire a phone number or an address.  But the general public might not be aware that there is also a 2-1-1 human services hotline for anything from employment support to finding a shelter location.
