Savannah, GA (October 11, 2010) – Through the Georgia Fresh Start program, United Way of the Coastal Empire partnered with the Salvation Army to provide over $300,000 in financial assistance to more than 900 individuals in Bryan, Chatham and Liberty counties. This one-time financial crisis assistance, up to $3,000 per household, was distributed to low income families facing critical situations due to a loss of income or unfortunate economic circumstances.

Savannah, GA (September 16, 2010) – United Way Hands On Savannah (HOS) celebrates Days of Service from September 18th through October 2nd by offering a host of service projects to address local needs as well as meet the desired interest of volunteers. Projects will include environmental clean ups, building bike paths, brown bag and landscaping projects and more. The service projects coincide with Hands On Network week of service (September 25th – October 2nd), which plans to have thousands of participants in volunteer service projects across the nation.

Savannah, GA (July 13, 2010) – United Way of the Coastal Empire is looking for community members interested in being part of this year’s community investment process. Each year, United Way of the Coastal Empire engages dozens of volunteer citizens from across the community to serve on one of four Community Investments’ Allocations Panels. These panels evaluate program funding proposals from non-profit social service organizations in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. The members then make funding recommendations to allocate The Community Fund, which are the un-designated donor contributions raised during United Way’s annual charitable-giving campaign.

Savannah, GA (June 21, 2010) – Despite a high level of heat, a number of golf teams joined together and showed their support as they took to the greens during the 18th Annual United Way Golf Tournament at the Club at Savannah Harbor. Each year, the golf tournament is instrumental in jump-starting the United Way fundraising campaign, as it builds awareness of the community based programs that United Way of the Coastal Empire supports throughout its four county coverage.

Savannah, GA (June 4, 2010) – For low income families facing critical situations due to a loss in income or unfortunate economic circumstances, help is on the way. Through the Georgia Fresh Start program, United Way of the Coastal Empire provides one-time financial crisis assistance, up to $3,000 per household, for housing and utilities including foreclosure, demand for possession, dispossessory, eviction notice, shut-off or past due notice for utilities or utilities turned-off. The program will launch on June 7, 2010 and run through September 30, 2010.

Savannah, GA (May 4, 2010) – Members of United Way Women’s Legacy Council are kicking off their heels and getting down to business. Approximately 45 local women, comprised of philanthropists and community leaders, are gearing up for the second annual Give-a-Way project to raise funds for low-income women in our community. The fundraising drive officially kicks off on Mother’s Day (May 9, 2010) and culminates on Father’s Day (June 20, 2010). Give-a-Way donations will be used to provide CAT bus passes for women, who do not have a car or other means to reach the services they need.
