United Way of the Coastal Empire (UWCE) is working to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.
Our work is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stables, and when people are healthy.
Through a strategic planning process, we have identified three priorities for a good life:
- Education & Youth Development
- Health & Wellness
- Economic Independence
These three priorities serve to guide the United Way’s five-year plan to strategically invest available resources to influence and enhance the long term quality of life in our community.
We assess the community needs, identify services and resources and then work with organizations to ensure that programs are in place to meet the needs of the residents within Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. Annual assessments are completed on all programs supported by the United Way through the dedication of numerous volunteers who serve as members of Allocation Panels. These panel members participate in training, review written proposals and completed on site observations then make recommendations to the UWCE Board of Directors regarding how the program is provided and funding to support the work.
United Way of the Coastal Empire also serves as administrator for community initiatives that support people in need, such as FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Assistance) that provides food and shelter.
We are a Casey Foundation recipient for the Center for Working Families model to assist individuals in workforce development, training, employment and financial assets. This project requires true collaborative among various partner agencies that provide the direct services to the clients and allow sharing of information through a community outcome-indicator tracking system. Our work includes the development and tracking of Community Indicators through a partnership with City of Savannah, Chatham County and many agencies and organizations who are non-profit 501c-3.
