Savannah, GA (November 20, 2009) – 2009 Campaign Chair Jeff Kole, President of Kole Management Company, and members of the Campaign Cabinet proudly reported current campaign results of $7,815,716 to a sold out crowd of over 400 people. Kole thanked and honored dedicated volunteers, committed corporate partners, and valued community donors for pulling together to help those in need. With the campaign still building momentum and the surprise announcement of $100,000 campaign challenge grant from an anonymous donor, United Way of the Coastal Empire decided to extend the campaign to December 1, 2009 to include last minute donations. “To those that have made a contribution, we are deeply grateful,” said Campaign Chair Jeff Kole. “In these difficult times, we have seen some extraordinary acts of charitable giving.” Kole added, “With thousands out of work, and thousands more whose hours have been cut and wages reduced, we simply can’t quit. We will continue our efforts until all the dollars are raised in order to help people in need.” United Way of the Coastal Empire hopes that by extending the current giving campaign it will be able to meet basic needs for individuals and families throughout Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. “It was a tough decision; but one, we felt we had to make,” Kole said. “The motivating force is the need that is right here in our community. There are people in our community who don’t have electricity or food on their tables. That’s our motivation to keep going.” United Way’s Executive Committee, a group that is comprised of approximately 10 community leaders, will conduct a “last appeal campaign” over the next few days, making personal phone calls to individuals and companies to make new donations or additional gifts. United Way’s campaign kicked off September 10, 2009 to raise funds to support over 100 programs and services to help children and youth achieve their potential, improve people’s health and wellness and help families and individuals become financially independent. Additionally, United Way supports families and neighborhoods with programs that provide food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities of life. Donations can be made by calling United Way of the Coastal Empire at 912.651.7701 or by mail at PO Box 2947, Savannah, GA 31402. |
