Savannah, GA (May 9, 2009) – In collaborative fashion, 20 local women, comprised of philanthropists and key community leaders, recently used their time, influence and financial resources to form the United Way’s Women’s Legacy Council (WLC). The members share a common mission: to make a difference in the life of women and children in the Coastal Empire through philanthropy and service.
The Women’s Legacy Council Committee will meet monthly to evaluate the needs in our community and how to best affect United Way’s community-based agenda through their support and resources. The goal is to collectively leverage the financial contributions and build influence to make a difference. Each member contributes at the leadership level to the United Way. All women donors giving at this level or higher are welcomed as members of the WLC.
Leading this new, dynamic group is Cathy Hill, Vice President Coastal Region of Georgia Power Company. “Our members share a demonstrated commitment to address challenges facing women and children in our community. I am very excited to have an opportunity through the Women’s Leadership Council to bring our local philanthropic women to the front lines to address our current community needs and opportunities,” said Hill.
United Way’s Women’s Legacy Council kicks-off their effort by conducting the GIVE-a-WAY fundraising effort. WLC members are asking individuals to make donations, from May 11 through June 11, 2009. Donations will be used to provide CAT Bus Passes for women, who without the help of the community might not have the means to otherwise find a ride. Individuals can help GIVE-a-WAY for these women to ride CAT by making contributions at the following locations: BB&T Bank, Carver State Bank, First Chatham Bank, Sea Island Bank, SunTrust Bank, The Savannah Bank and Wachovia Bank.
