Savannah, GA (October 2, 2009) – United Way of the Coastal Empire is excited to announce a generous contribution of $20,000 from Wachovia Bank, A Wells Fargo Company.  This contribution will be used to help low to moderate income individuals and families in owning a home in Chatham County through the Individual Development Account (IDA) program.

In partnership with the Neighborhood Improvement Association, United Way’s IDA program assists first time homebuyers to achieve homeownership.  Program participants are required to meet 65% to 85% of the median income in Chatham County, open and maintain a saving account for two years with a minimum deposit of $50 per month, complete financial literacy training and qualify for a home mortgage.

“At Wachovia Bank, we are committed in building a strong and vibrant community, improving the quality of life of individuals and families, and making a positive difference where we live and work,” said Jenny Gentry, City President of Wachovia Bank, A Wells Fargo Company, in Savannah.

United Way’s CEO and President, Gregg Schroeder, accepted the check at Wachovia Bank, Bull Street Branch on Wednesday, September 30, 2009.  United Way is grateful for their contributions and looks forward to a long-term partnership with the company. “It is a pleasure to recognize Wachovia’s support and commitment to United Way.  Their spirit of giving shows how much they care about our community,” said Gregg Schroeder.
