Savannah, GA (July 6, 2009) – The generosity of Publix Super Markets is deeply embedded in the company’s culture. On Tuesday, June 30th, Publix Super Markets presented United Way of the Coastal Empire with a check for $81,900 toward the 2008 United Way general campaign, which raised over $8.3 million. Local Store Managers Sean Dubois (Store 522 – Twelve Oaks Shopping Center), Keith Everett (Store 1154 – Richmond Hill Plantation), Benny Henderson (Store 456 – Wilmington Island) and Donovan Lewis (Store 1186 – Largo Plaza) presented the check and expressed their continued support for United Way. “We are pleased that, despite a tough economy, our associates stepped forward to make a difference in the community where we live and work,” said Store Manager Keith Everett, Publix Super Markets – Richmond Hill Plantation. Each year, local Publix associates contribute to United Way, largely through payroll deductions. Publix has approximately 600 associates from five stores across Savannah and Richmond Hill and their internal contributions are matched by Publix Super Markets Charities. In addition to financial support, Publix Super Markets sponsored an associate to help United Way during its annual fundraising campaign. One of 17 Loaned Associates, Belinda Orr, became part of the United Way’s campaign team and called on other businesses during the three months-long campaign. United Way of the Coastal Empire is grateful for the substantial donation, which will contribute to funding vital programs and services throughout its four-county service area. “The culture of giving that has been created and nurtured within Publix Super Markets is second to none. As one of our top 30 contributors, Publix and its associates raise the bar every year. Their heart and determination to truly LIVE UNITED is overwhelming,” said Gregg Schroeder, president and CEO of United Way of the Coastal Empire. |
