Savannah, GA (June 18, 2009) – Young leaders in the Coastal Empire know the importance of getting involved and staying connected in the community, and they want to learn more from networking experts in the area. On Tuesday, June 18th at AVIA, they were in luck!  Approximately 20 United Way’s Young Leaders Society (YLS) members and other young professionals attended a social networking event and leadership learning opportunity with special guest, Lydia Ramsey.

Lydia Ramsey gave a presentation about etiquette in networking to help United Way’s young leaders promote themselves and grow their business with class.  Her message resonated with the young professionals in the audience.

United Way’s YLS has several learning opportunities and social networking events planned throughout the year.  Their goal is to bring young professionals together to learn about critical issues impacting our community and more importantly, show them how to get involved to make a difference in people’s lives.

“United Way’s YLS is a unique group that cultivates its members’ relationships and involvement with the United Way and in doing so, creates an excitement around philanthropy,” said David Slagel, Vice-Chair of the YLS Steering Committee.  “We are hoping to grow our membership…we’re sure that there are many young professionals out there who share our vision of a better community for everyone and who will commit their time, energy and talents.”

United Way’s Young Leaders Society targets individuals under the age of 45 who are interested in making a positive impact in the community. Members of YLS invest in the local community by giving $365 or more annually and engage in networking activities, complete service projects and have the opportunity to serve in volunteer leadership roles within United Way and other non-profit organizations.
