Savannah, GA (February 19, 2009) – United Way of the Coastal Empire hosted its first Young Leaders Society (YLS) event on Wednesday, February 18. Over 30 young community members attended to learn more about their role in local philanthropy.
United Way’s Young Leaders Society targets individuals under the age of 45 who are interested in making a positive impact in the community. Members of Young Leaders Society invest in the local community at the leadership level of $365 or more annually and engage in networking activities, complete service projects and have the opportunity to serve in volunteer leadership roles within United Way and other non-profit organizations.
United Way’s Board Chair Mike Kemp, Senior Vice President, Regional Trust Manager of Synovus Trust Company, said that there is a need for a group like this locally. “We are fortunate that the Coastal Empire is a very generous community, but the leaders who support our community today will not always be here. United Way’s Young Leaders Society hopes to engage up-and-coming leaders and give them the tools and experiences to make lasting change in our community,” Kemp explained.
