Walk the Walk 5K
Enthusiasm and caring were in abundance on October 19, 2007, when approximately 250 experienced runners and amateur weekend athletes took in beautiful downtown City Market and enjoyed a fun, fast 5K course for United Way's 5th Annual Walk the Walk 5K.
This year's event was presented by SouthCoast Medical Group. This annual 5K event is part of the United Way’s fundraising campaign with this year’s goal of $8 million. All proceeds benefit the United Way’s 37 member agencies and support over 85 community-based programs and services which cover Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties.
This was the first year that SouthCoast Medical Group has hosted this fundraising event for the United Way. Dr. Pat Jones, President of SouthCoast Medical Group, labeled this event as both a way to support the United Way and a wonderful opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles within the Coastal Empire.
Other sponsors included Thomas & Hutton Engineering, 98.7 the River, Savannah Morning News, WTOC-TV, City of Savannah, Coldwell Banker Platinum Partners and Wild Wing Café.
Campaign Chair, Bert “Man of Steel” Tenenbaum awarded prizes to the top male and female runners in each age categories. There was food, fun and entertainment following the 5K race.
