Savannah, GA – (January 18, 2008) There is a new shop on College Street in downtown Pembroke. Providing everything a child need to get ready to school or a mother to go to work, The Clothes Line fills an important need in North Bryan County community.
Led by the United Way of the Coastal Empire and City of Pembroke, The Clothes Line is a community wide program to provide low cost clothing to residents of North Bryan County. The Bryan County Department of Family and Children Service (DFCS), Gateway Behavioral Health Services, local churches, Pembroke Police Department, as well as Pembroke Fire Department and Bryan County Sheriff’s Department will provide referrals for clients in special circumstances to secure no cost clothing.
The purpose of Clothes Line goes even further. It helps individuals better their quality of life. The Clothes Line will be fully staffed by volunteers providing opportunities for retirees and young people to get involved in activities that help others.
Through partnership with Gateway’s Employment Program, persons with mild barriers to employment will receive hand-on training in customer service and retail activities. “We hope that as soon as our core volunteers are fully trained, they can assist our special needs citizens getting the hands on experience they will need to secure employment to become more self-sufficient,” said Janice Blunt, Area Director of United Way of the Coastal Empire, Bryan County Office.
A special thank to Pembroke native, Army Major Herman Haggray, for his generosity to donate the building rent-free to be used for The Clothes Line.
The Clothes Line’s hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
