United Way of the Coastal Empire Announces
$8 Million Goal

United Way of the Coastal Empire kicked off its annual campaign on Thursday, September 6 at 11:45 a.m. at the Savannah Civic Center, announcing its $8,000,000 goal for the 2007 Campaign. Funds raised during the annual Campaign help support approximately 85 health and human service programs that improve the lives of people in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.
Campaign Chair Bert Tenenbaum, President of Chatham Steel Corporation, is leading this year’s fundraising effort with the theme “MAN OF STEEL: Use Your Superpowers for the Good of Our Community.”
Over 1,000 people attended the event as Tenenbaum was introduced by a creative Superheroes-themed video, produced by Marketing Chair Craig Harney of WTOC-TV. The crowd cheered as Bert “Man of Steel” Tenenbaum and his band of Superheroes made their full fledged stunt entrance.
Sonny Dixon of WTOC-TV provided special remarks for the event as he challenged the crowd to use their superpowers and engage in United Way’s efforts to bring positive impact to the Coastal Empire community.
Tenenbaum recognized a number of people including 56 volunteers who comprise the Campaign Cabinet, as well as the 19 Loaned Associates who will carry the 2007 Campaign to employee groups across the community.
To aid in this year’s effort, Critz, Inc. has generously donated a new 2007 GMC truck to be given away as part of the community campaign. No donation is required. Anyone attending a United Way campaign meeting at their place of employment is eligible to enter. The winner will be announced on November 16th of this year. Click here to learn how you can win!
During the luncheon, local business within the community reported results from their campaigns that were conducted in early August. These “Pacesetters” got a head start on campaign in order to set the pace for the campaign as a whole. Pacesetters reported a total of $784,841. Click here to see 2007 Pacesetter organizations.
