UWCE tops $8.9M for campaign

Savannah, GA (November 16, 2012) – United Way of the Coastal Empire announced today that it exceeded its 2012 campaign goal and raised $8,927,246.  This represents a five percent increase over the $8.5M announced last year and $150,000 over this year’s goal of $8,777,007.

Campaign Chair Samuel G. McCachern, senior vice president of Thomas & Hutton, and members of the Campaign Cabinet proudly reported campaign results to a sold out crowd of over 450 people at the Victory Celebration today at the Hyatt Regency Savannah.

McCachern thanked and honored volunteers, donors and corporate partners for pulling together to help those in need.  “We knew since the very beginning that meeting the goal would be extremely difficult, but it was the right thing to do with the tremendous need in our community,” said McCachern.  “We can never say never on the human needs in the Coastal Empire community, because they are of such paramount importance to so many lives right now.”  McCachern emphasized that the key to exceeding the goal was donors understanding the needs of the community then willingly stepping up. “It was a remarkable job well done.”

United Way of the Coastal Empire organizes its campaign under units for industry groups.  Unit one, Corporate division, led all others with a campaign total of more than $4.5M. Thanks to Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and its employees for giving so generously to the community, raising $2.5M.

The funds raised by United Way support over 100 programs and services across Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties.  Funds raised will be invested to help children and youth achieve their potential, improve people’s health and wellness, help families and individuals become financially independent and support families and neighborhoods with programs that provide food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities of life.  In addition to helping raise funds, McCachern has called on the community to actively engage in United Way’s focus areas to improve education, income, health and basic needs.
